Just learned today that after a root canal, the tooth can actually become brittle over time and might need a crown to protect it. Had no idea... thought the root canal was the end of it. Anyone else heard this or got more info?

Yeah, I learned that the hard way myself. Had a root canal done a few years back, skipped the crown thinking it wasn't necessary... ended up cracking the tooth later on. Dentist explained that without the nerve, the tooth loses moisture and becomes brittle. Did your dentist mention how soon you'd need the crown?

I totally get where you're coming from—it's easy to underestimate how fragile a tooth can become after a root canal. My dentist actually explained it pretty similarly, mentioning that once the nerve is gone, the tooth dries out and weakens over time. She recommended getting the crown within a month or two at most, just to be safe. I know it's an extra step (and expense), but honestly, it's worth it to avoid bigger issues down the line. Hang in there... dental stuff can be stressful.
