Last week I was sitting in the dentist's chair, mouth wide open, gums getting poked and prodded, when suddenly the hygienist starts telling me about her cat's birthday party. Like, full-on decorations and a cake for a cat. I'm trying not to laugh with sharp tools in my mouth, but seriously...how random is that? Made the whole gum treatment thing way less awful. Anyone else had weirdly funny moments at the dentist?
"I'm trying not to laugh with sharp tools in my mouth, but seriously...how random is that?"
Haha, that's exactly the kind of distraction I need when I'm stuck in that chair. My dentist once started humming along to the elevator music playing overheadβlike full-on humming, totally oblivious. It was oddly calming, but kinda funny too...made me forget for a second how nervous I usually am about dental visits. Maybe dentists and hygienists have secret training on weird distractions? Whatever works, I guess.
Haha, your dentist humming along to elevator music is gold. Mine once got into a full-blown debate with the assistant about pineapple on pizza while working on my teeth. Like, step one: open patient's mouth. Step two: insert sharp tools. Step three: passionately argue pizza toppings... It was oddly distracting enough to make me forget my anxiety for a bit. Maybe you're onto something with that "secret training" theory...

Whatever it is, I'm all for it if it keeps my mind off the drill noises.
