Had a root canal a couple years ago and it was...not fun. Now dentist says I need another one, and I'm seriously considering sedation this time. Anyone here done that before? Curious how it went for you.

I totally get the anxiety...had sedation for mine last year and honestly, best decision ever. Barely remember anything, just felt groggy afterward. Only downside was needing someone to drive me home, but worth it for the peace of mind.

Yeah, sedation definitely helps. Had it twice myself—first time without sedation was manageable but tense, second time with sedation was way smoother. Just make sure you clear your schedule afterward, you'll probably wanna nap for a bit...

Haha, can confirm this. My daughter had sedation for her root canal last year—best decision ever. She was pretty nervous beforehand, but honestly, the sedation made it a breeze. Just be ready to chill at home afterward; she was groggy and basically binged cartoons all afternoon. Stock up on ice cream too... trust me, it helps.

Had sedation for mine about three years ago, and yeah, it was definitely worth it. Like others said, I was pretty groggy afterward—ended up dozing on the couch for most of the afternoon. Didn't binge cartoons, but I did catch up on some Netflix shows I'd been meaning to watch. One thing I'd add is to make sure someone can drive you home; sedation hits everyone a bit differently, and I was definitely not in any shape to get behind the wheel.

Also, ice cream is great advice, but personally, I found cold smoothies even better—felt soothing and easier to handle right after the procedure. Curious if your dentist mentioned what type of sedation they're thinking about? Mine was IV sedation, and honestly, I barely remember anything about the actual root canal itself. If anxiety's a big factor for you, sedation really makes a huge difference.
